Private castle, the castle of Freÿr is located along the Meuse River, in Belgium. This castle is furnished and still inhabited by its owners. A first castle was built in the 14th century and then destroyed in the 16th century. The Renaissance castle, as we know it today, was then built and enlarged in the 17th century.

Visit

You can visit various furnished rooms, as well as the park along the Meuse. These classic terraced gardens include three-year-old orange trees (kept in winter in the oldest orangery of the old Netherlands) and several kilometers of vegetable labyrinth. The visit of the castle is done with a paper support which you can also download on the website, which is very convenient if you want to find information. From the website you can also download audio commentaries for the castle’s interior and exterior tours.

The castle is open from April to mid-November and throughout the year for groups (mandatory reservation).

Activities

Various activities are organized punctually such as picnics in the park, conferences, etc. Agenda to watch!

Do not be demotivated by seeing the website of the castle. This website and its presence on the internet could be improved. Freÿr castle is a jewel of Wallonia and is well worth a visit! We advise you to visit it on a sunny day because the walk in the gardens is worth the detour.
