The château de Chenonceau is undoubtedly one of the most famous private castles in France. Located in Indre-et-Loire, built at the beginning of the XVIth century, this castle intrigues by its particular architecture and its long gallery over the Cher River. Chenonceau Castle is also known as the “Ladies Castle” since several great ladies have marked the history of this castle. It was Katherine Briçonnet who built it, then it was embellished by Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medicis. At the French Revolution, it was saved by Madame Dupin and then it was a military hospital during the First World War.
